Classic British Welcome
One of the Best Things to Do at Le Mans
If you’re at Le Mans on Friday, this is one of the best things you can do.
The Classic British Welcome takes place in the village of Saint-Saturnin, just north of Le Mans, and has become a must-do part of race week.
It’s relaxed, friendly, and full of incredible cars.
What Is It?
The Classic British Welcome is a huge gathering of classic and sports cars held every year on the Friday before the race.
- Around 1,000 cars on display
- All makes, all eras — not just British
- Visitors and cars from all over Europe
The whole village turns into a massive open-air car show.
It started as a stop-off point for British fans heading to Le Mans — and has grown into one of the most popular events of the week.
When Is It?
- Friday before race weekend
- Typically 9:00am – 5:00pm
You don’t need to be there all day — even a couple of hours is enough.
What’s It Like?
This is very different to the circuit.
- Laid-back and social
- Easy to walk around
- Owners happy to chat about their cars
There’s also food, drink, stalls and entertainment — more like a village festival than a formal event.
At its heart, it’s about wandering, looking at cars, and soaking up the atmosphere.
Getting There (Without a Car)
You don’t need to drive — public transport works well.
- Take the tram from Tertre Rouge (Guetteloup) or Antares
- Get off at Eperon
- Take Bus Route 7 to Saint-Saturnin
- Then a short walk, well signed.
It sounds like a bit of effort, but it’s straightforward and worth it.
Friday Plan (Highly Recommended)
This is where it really works well.
- Morning → Head to Classic British Welcome
- Afternoon → Return to Le Mans for the Drivers Parade (around 4pm)
In fact, some of the cars from Saint-Saturnin even head into the city later in the day for the parade.
It makes for one of the best days of the whole week.
Why It’s Worth It
- Completely free to attend
- One of the biggest classic car gatherings of the week
- A different atmosphere from the circuit
It’s a break from the crowds and noise — and a reminder of what Le Mans is really about.
Final Thought
You can stay at the circuit all week…
But if you do, you’ll miss things like this.
Friday at Saint-Saturnin is one of the highlights of Le Mans.
