Often a baron place, really only a camping area for
visitors who want a car or camper van right in the middle of it all with
none of the creature comforts

A camping site for deaf people, the clinically insane, and people who don't
care where they camp. Situated opposite the Dunlop bridge adjacent to the
Bugatti circuit, there is only one advantage of being here - if you get up high
enough you will see the track. Other than that, we can't see any reason why
people use this site, but many of you disagree! 2003 reports are that it's expanded further into the Bugatti
circuit now, and at this side is actually almost civilised...
- Pros: Close to the action, possible view of the track from the top of your
motorhome
- Cons: Rough, sloping ground; noise; no facilities at all; constant stream
of spectators wandering by urinating in your tent
- Typical camper: Fans of lots of noise and
those who want to be close to Dunlop bridge
Here is a 2006 update from
BM member Neil (Mr Humsc) - he last camped in Chapelle in 2003 and
returned there for 2006 -
"God how they've managed it but Chapelle is now WORSE than ever. Please,
for your own sake, NEVER camp on this site! Here's why...
Location & access: construction at Dunlop
Bridge work has created a rutted, dust bowl. Its a sloped site, so when
it rains (which it did on Wed qualifying) it runs through your tent and
cakes everything in sand/silt/mud. Not enough or no space to park
vehicles You are not permitted to bring vehicles on site between 2pm and
Midnight on Wed, Thu & Sat
Security:
at least 5 neighbouring tents and vans were
ransacked for items of value/car keys
- public access to the site so people tripping over guide ropes, pissing
up tents and no privacy. 'Controleurs' have no idea where Chapelle is so
won't let you through the main entrance, which is the shortest, safest
route - unless you fancy creeping your way through the Village through a
sea of inebriated pedestrians
Facilities: toilets and showers open to
public and are therefore always filthy, try as the diligent cleaners to
keep they sanitary. No marked plots, so it's a free-for-all. You may get
shade from pine trees, but they get sap all on your paintwork and canvas
Atmosphere: none noted
Value for money:
it's the same price as decent camp sites like Maison Blanche and Tetre
Rouge
- asking around, our ticket supplier peddled the same yarn to all our
fellow campers that they were 'the last two tickets they had'.
So, with that assessment, no matter how desperate you are, PLEASE don't
buy tickets in Chapelle - We had a miserable time and given the choice
would rather sleep in a ditch next year! "
Looks like a campsite to only
use when you have no other options...

The business - worth working hard
to get
A fine campsite, have no worries at all
staying here
No major problems, but if you have a choice, this is
not the top drawer of sites
Not a disaster, but unless your needs are very specific,
this probably wasn't your first choice
See if you can trade for something better, but at least
you have somewhere to camp, right?
