Airtrack "VIP"

Basic camping with average facilities, there can be lots of space if it does not get sold out

We used Airtrack in 2003. We had a great trip and a fun week, but could not help to think what poor value for money it was and how away from the real atmosphere of the race it was too. Perhaps things have changed - please let us know if you have used this campsite in 2007.

  • Pros: You should be able to buy tickets (a.k.a. "packages") here right up to the race as it caters for people who cant get any other options.
  • Cons: Expect to pay through the nose. Don't forget you are at a brilliant motor race and there are thousands doing this in better style, lower cost, and closer to the action.
  • Typical camper: Owners of nice cars on safe packages, last minute brigade.

Location & Access: No issues and pretty secure as its a small place.

Camping: Marked plots, which can be under the size you have paid for - bring a tape measure to check.

Security: Good - no ACO presence as this is not a public campsite, but feels secure. Nice to have someone who speaks English to meet on arrival and agree your pitch with.

Facilities: Good quality toilets and showers, a big plus in the price equation. Water can be a walk away from your pitch. Electricity limited in power, but available if you have a long cable.

Atmosphere: Poor. The claims on its website an in its brochure make it sound really high octane stuff. We found it positively pedestrian. Like a Cuban "all inclusive" resort, they want you to buy packages and also buy your beer & food at their facilities. We say - no thanks.

The business - worth working hard to get

A fine campsite, have no worries at all staying here

No major problems, but if you have a choice, this is not the top drawer of sites

Not a disaster, but unless your needs are very specific, this probably wasn't your first choice

See if you can trade for something better, but at least you have somewhere to camp, right?
